The Long Holidays don't write songs on the typical things you would expect: love, and relationships, and whatnot. They instead cover everything from viking funerals, submarines, and astronauts, to Christmas tree bonfires, doppleganger rivalries, and the perils of drinking too much whiskey. Their observational wit gathers the stories pouring from the cracks in the street, and gives them the full sound of a steady westbound train.
The Long Holidays are fronted by Jim Holmquist, a songwriter-scientist with a love for tall tales. The spontaneous blend of rock music is created by Andy Worshill, a bass playing trombonist who stole the voice of a lounge singer, Kevin Engelking, the quick fingered pianist who runs the complaint department, Sean Garnreiter, trumpeter and "party dude", and John, the nicest drummer in all of LA.
Their live shows have been known to turn unsuspecting audiences into grunting oarsmen rowing a longship, a pack of howling coyotes, or a bunch of Irish jig dancers, sometimes all in one night. Their memorable songs and great showmanship have been winning them recognition around LA. They have self produced two releases (Through Two Lenses EP, The Adventure Through Liquid Space), and they are currently working on their third effort.
The Long Holidays are an independent gem with many great adventures ahead of them.
